Titan is the Primal of earth, worshiped by the mole-like Kobold Beastmen tribe. While he may be huge and lumbering, Titan is a gentle father to his tunnel-dwelling worshipers. His home is on the serene plains of La Noscea, and those who provoke the anger of the colossus have to deal with his earthquake attacks and special ability, Earth Fury.
Story Mode Battle
The battle against Titan is a level 34 fight, with people above 36 being synced down. It is significantly more difficult than the battle against Ifrit, and will require more coordination within the group. Due to the large amount of area-effect damage, the healer in the group will have to devote a lot of her time to keeping the entire party at high levels of health, not just the tank. Proper placement of the group to avoid Titan’s biggest attacks is essential as well. Unlike most arenas, this battle does not have a “safe edge”, and thus players are able to fall to their deaths by stepping off the side of the area.
Due to the unique design of the arena, it is suggest all party members stand closer to the boss than usual. Should they accidently be hit by a knockback attack, the distance between them and the edge might just be enough to save their life.
PHASE ONE (100%-50% HP)
The fight will begin with the tank getting threat on Titan while DPS engages quickly. The arena is divided into three portions: the inner circle (which glows a more golden color), the “safe” circle, and the outer ring. Several times during the fight, Titan will jump high into the air with an ability called Geocrush and vanish for a few seconds; it is essential that no one be standing on the inner circle when he lands, or they will likely die. Players must also avoid the outer ring, which will be marked visually, as it will crumble away and fall, shrinking the available area within which to fight. The best spot is near the red edge, but still on the inner side of it. You will take the least amount of damage here, while also avoiding falling to your death.
In addition to his leap, Titan will occasionally target a non-tank player and use an ability called Landslide, which fires in a straight line away from the boss towards the edge of the arena. All players near the attack must run as far away as possible, as it will do a large amount of damage and will likely knock anyone struck out of the arena to their deaths. It is important to note that the radius for the knockback is larger than the warning graphic that is shown on the ground, so players should run significantly further than normal to get clear.
Titan’s third major ability is Tumult, which is an unavoidable AOE attack that will be used periodically. Healers will need to account for the extra damage, in case Titan jumps shortly after a Tumult.
PHASE TWO (TITAN’S HEART)
At around 50% health, Titan’s Heart will spawn, and Titan becomes untargetable. Like with the Ifrit fight, the heart needs to be destroyed as soon as possible, or Titan will use his ultimate ability and one-shot the entire party. The heart can be targetted with Limit Break abilities if needed, though it is recommended to save it for Phase 3 if possible. The party must remain aware of Titan’s abilities, which will be executed as they were in Phase One, with one exception.
Starting in Phase Two, Titan also possesses a trap ability, where a single character will be encased in stone, and unable to interact with the fight. This ability will always affect either the DPS or healer, and the stone will need to be broken open to free them as quickly as possible. Allowing a DPS or the healer to remain trapped for too long will often cause a wipe during this phase, so it is recommended that even the tank assist with breaking the traps when possible.
If your group fails to destroy Titan’s Heart before he begins Earthern Fury, you will die, no matter what buffs your party may have. It is imperative that the heart be focused down as fast as possible to avoid this!
PHASE THREE (50%-0% HP)
Once Titan’s Heart is destroyed, he will again be targetable, and will continue using all of the same abilities. However, as the battlefield will be continually shrinking thanks to Geocrush, it is essential to burn through the rest of his HP as fast as possible. Titan also adds one new AoE attack, Weight of the Land, which will appear randomly throughout the arena (centered on 1-2 players). It appears as a rippling effect on the ground for a moment, then explodes upward, so players will need to move to avoid roughly 400-700 damage.
After the fight, players will receive a small amount of experience, but more importantly will be able to advance the storyline further. Congratulations on defeating the Lord of Crags!
